The design is sited at the intriguing tangle of motorways at Kleinpolderplein traffic interchange on the western edge of Rotterdam. There the unceasing flow of traffic delivers a strong commercial message and the location is ideal in terms of reachability. The building's design enters into a relationship with this traffic. Its insertion into the urban setting, its form and part of its internal functioning are inspired by the dynamic location.
The elevation is designed as a filter between those using the centre and those passing by. It serves to bring the traffic into contact with the world inside and vice versa. Its form was generated with the aid of computer programmes and is defined by the relationship between the traffic passing over the flyovers and the particular function inside the building.
