BehaviourLinks: Urban Mode - Christian Friedrich

Behaviourlinks is a proposal for a dynamic, open, cooperative design environment as applied here to the Wijnhaven quarter in The Hague. The proposal seeks to change the way architects use digital techniques.

A Behaviourlink is computer software, more precisely a unit of program code executed in real time. It defines the interaction between conceptual entities. These entities may relate as much to architectural concepts as to digital interfaces to sensors, users and data.

Users can develop a parametric diagram of the urban plan by defining conceptual nodes and establishing behavioural links. Form, structure and visualization have their origins in the behavioural design rules and decisions the user makes. The diagram is additionally fuelled by reverse navigation with swarming nodes.

Armed with the swarm diagram, the parties concerned can make quick and well-grounded decisions on the urban plan. The aim of the project is to remodel the entire traditional sequential process into a real-time behavioural network.
