This building to house the Vedute Foundation is projected on Eerste Weteringsplantsoen, a green oasis in central Amsterdam. Its design accords on all fronts with the objectives of Vedute, these being to invite artists and graphic designers to give shape to their personal views on space in a three-dimensional manuscript measuring 44 x 32 x 7 cm. The Vedute building is in two portions separated by a narrow passageway constituting part of the walking route through the park. Off this passageway is the entrance where one's route through the building begins. One building part is of timber, the other of concrete. The timber construction is light and variously assembled, the concrete volume heavy and all of a piece. These two portions balance each other out, with the overstated construction lending visual rhythm and kneading the light. Altogether this creates continuity among the building parts, giving direction and structure to the various spaces and to the building as a whole.
