Cyber Space Theatre - Fjodor Richter

Cyber Space Theatre

The Cyber Space Theatre is sited at the Oosterdok in Amsterdam, opposite the New Metropolis science centre. A cableway ties the two buildings together, making it possible to cross high above the railway to the head end of Oostelijke Handelskade. If desired this aerial link can be continued as far as Central Station. The theatre is a place where you can log in to the latest developments in information technology, with virtual reality a major contributory factor. Numerous attractions and opportunities to do your own research are there to foster interest in state-of-the-art technology. The designed theatre can be read as a box of tricks which you can enter with others and actively engage in transferring information. It recalls the travelling cinema shows at fairs where a wide audience first made the acquaintance of moving images. This time, though, you are part of the proceedings.

A promenade beginning outside in the courtyard brings you to the central hall. From here a route unwinds through the building leading past the various attractions. While following the route there is the possibility of logging back into reality in the chill-outs located along the façade. Here you can get your head back together, though the next adventure beckons.

Besides visiting the attractions you can hire space and technical facilities for doing your own research and to experiment. The route ends at the Club Solitair, a hotel for hackers and other cyberfreaks. It enables you to make more extended use of the amenities. The club has a mega chill-out on the roof with facilities for relaxing or working out. Welcome to cyberspace.
