Accessorize - Nicole Maurer

Accessorize

The project developed from my interest in the meaning and potential of the relationship between architecture and media. Fashion, whose existence is wholly contingent on the media, enjoys the most profound relations with architecture. Looking to develop new perspectives for the profession, the project assesses whether the thinking on fashion can be applied in architecture and if so, how. The written part of my graduation project takes the form of a fashion magazine entitled ACCESSORIZE, which showcases a number of my designs and theories along graphically professional lines. The principal component of the project is an architectural design for a combined care centre for the elderly and crèche. In this design two concepts, ACCESS (accessibility/links) and ACCESSORIES (additions/stratification), are applied and fully worked out architecturally. I specifically chose to design a building unrelated to the world of fashion to show the general validity of the developed strategy.
